We need your help fighting breast cancer.

 

The PVDA Ride for LifeTM is a benefit dressage competition for The Johns Hopkins Breast Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Since its inception, PVDA has raised over $81,000 for The Johns Hopkins Breast Center. Proceeds benefit the Quality of Life Research Fund at Johns Hopkins.  The Fund provides the financial resources needed to support new and innovative research in the area of breast cancer survivorship. The goal of these research endeavors is to help ensure that women not only survive breast cancer but have excellent quality of life after their treatment is completed.

 

Riders are encouraged to gather donations while competing for special awards.  Contact riderdonations@pvdarideforlife.org for information on raising donations. Please visit www.pvdarideforlife.org for an updated prize list.

 

The PVDA Ride for LifeTM will include a Gala Dinner and a special Saturday evening event, the Jill Hassler-Scoop Memorial Dancing Horse Challenge.

DEFINITIONS

 

BLM: Qualifying class for 2008 Colonel Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Championships. Riders must be members of a participating organization at the time of the show to be eligible.

 

GAIG: Qualifying class for the 2008 GAIG/USDF Championships (must declare qualifying ride on entry form). An additional $10 fee is required (in addition to regular class fee) and must be paid prior to the start of the class.

 

Open: Open to all horses and riders. Show management will split classes into AA, JR, and Open divisions as appropriate depending on class size.

 

AA: Open to Adult Amateurs only. Competitors must compete as adults from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach the age of 22 and must hold a current USEF Amateur Card.

 

TOC: Test of Choice – specify test on entry form

 

# Class #11 is a USDF/Dover Adult Amateur Medal Program class.

 

## Class #53 Phantom Horse Class is special non-competition fundraising class for Johns Hopkins.  See website www.pvdarideforlife.org for more information & separate entry form.

 

** Para-Equestrian riders must have USEF Dispensation, Para-Equestrian Eligibility, or Presidential Dispensation Certificate to enter. Submit copy with entry form. Para-Equestrian tests will be ridden in a 20m x 60m arena.

 

ENTRY RULES

 

• Make checks payable to PVDA.

 

• Entries must be submitted on a 2008 Region One Entry Form.

 

• USEF members must provide proof of current membership either with the entry form or when checking in at the show office. Riders are encouraged to use the Master Verification site at www.eqverification.org.The membership affidavit fee is $5.

 

• Entries may be limited if the show is over-subscribed. Entries received after the show is full will be placed on a waiting list. The show may fill prior to the closing date.

 

• Entries received after the closing date will be accepted and placed on a waiting list to be

scheduled on a space-available basis. Entries submitted after the closing date will be charged a $50 post entry surcharge.

 

• Entries will be accepted only with entry form and payment. The entry form must be signed in all three signature blocks, as well as in the “coach” box is applicable. Only original signatures are accepted.

 

• Show Management reserves the right to refuse entries (USEF Rule V) and to make changes, deletions, or corrections as deemed necessary.

 

• A negative Coggins test within the past 12 months is required for entry to the show grounds. Entries with a Coggins test valid throughout the show date will not be accepted.

 

• Do not send entries via registered, certified, or signature-required mail. No telephone, fax, or email entries will be accepted.

 

• Until the closing date, entry fees will be refunded less a $20 office fee. After the closing date, no refunds (including stabling fees and overpayments) will be issued for any reason, including Acts of God, inclement weather, terrorism, or other emergencies.

 

• Fees must be paid in full with the entry form. If a check for entry fees is returned, the entry will be placed on a waiting list until all fees are paid in cash, money order, or cashier’s check. All returned checks are subject to a $30 service fee.

 

• Horses not stabled during the show must pay a $20 grounds fee.

 

• Non-competing horses must register with the Show Secretary, show proof of a current Coggins test, and pay a $40 fee. Non-competing horses must wear a bridle number at all times. Non-competing horses do not pay separate USEF or office fees. Non-competing horses must pay either a stabling fee or a $20 grounds fee.

 

• Acknowledgement of entry receipt will be emailed or mailed to each competitor. Please check for errors and notify the secretary immediately if any errors are spotted.

 

• Times will be available on the website www.pvda.org approximately one week before the show date.

 

GENERAL RULES

 

• Every class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current USEF Rule Book will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. USEF rules go into effect upon arrival at the show grounds.

 

• Management reserves the right to split, combine, delete, or add classes. Management also reserves the right to add or substitute judges or make any changes required by circumstances.

 

• Current editions of the USEF tests for Training Level – Fourth Level tests will be used, as well as current editions of the USDF Quadrille and Pas de Deux tests and current editions of the FEI Prix St. George, Intermediare I, Intermediare II, and Grand Prix B tests, and FEI Paraquestrian Tests.

 

• A veterinarian, farrier and EMT will be on the grounds. All emergency numbers will be posted in the Secretary's Office.

 

• Numbers must be worn at all times when a horse is being exercised or ridden.

 

• Riders competing in freestyle classes must present music on good quality CD at least two hours prior to their scheduled ride time. Riders must submit with their entry a copy of the highest test of the level, with a minimum score of 58%.

 

• Appropriate headgear must be worn at all times while mounted on these premises. Show

Management strongly suggests the use of safety helmets.

 

• All dogs must be leashed while on show grounds and in stable area. No dogs in the office areas. Owners will be fined.

 

• Food will be available for purchase on the show grounds.

 

• Riders may substitute horses once they have entered only upon presentation of a vet certificate for the incapacitated horse, or a bill-of-sale, and only in classes in which the first horse was entered. The secretary must be notified at least 24 hours before the classes take place and a new entry form must be completed.

 

• No-shows will be considered a scratch for the remainder of the show.

 

• All owners and competitors are personally responsible for damages to third parties caused by themselves, their employees, their agents, or their horses. They are therefore strongly advised to take out third-party insurance providing full coverage for participation in equestrian events.

 

• Each barn has one sharps container per 50 horses available (per GR 1211.5). Show

Management may fine any individual including trainers, exhibitors, owners, or their agents up to $100 for improper disposal of needles or other sharp disposable instruments.

 

• Any person operating any motorized vehicle, including golf carts, must have a valid drivers license from his/her state of residence.

 

• Arenas: one indoor arena with stone dust footing. Outdoor arenas with sand/stone dust

footing.

 

• Warm up areas: Sand/stone dust outdoor arenas. Grass areas. Longeing is permitted in

designated areas only.

 

• Vendors: Contact the show manager in advance of the show. Vendors must sign a release form and abide by the general rules of the facility. Fee is $20 per day.

STABLING

 

• Limited permanent stalls are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The stalls have doors. Bring buckets and screw eyes.

 

• Due to limited stabling, stalls may be restricted to competing horses whose entries are received by the closing date.

 

• Horse and tack stalls are $100 per weekend (12pm on Friday through 7pm on Sunday). Early arrival or late departure is available for $30/stall. Day stalls (6am to 6pm) are $50. Use of tack stalls may be limited.

 

• Competitors must contact the Stable Manager to arrange early arrivals or late departures, and may be responsible for additional security or fees associated.

 

• Stall assignments will be posted at the facility entrance and at the show office.

 

• Riders must provide emergency contact information on their entry form.

 

AWARDS

 

Class Awards: Trophy and six ribbons in each class. AA and JR/YR Divisions pinned separately if entries warrant. Manager reserves the right to combine and split classes.

 

High Score Awards: Ribbons to the competitors with the highest single percentage score in each of the following divisions: Training, First, Second, Third, Fourth, FEI.

 

Class #11 is a USDF/Dover Adult Amateur Medal Program class.

 

DIRECTIONS

 

Take I-95 (Washington Capital Beltway) to exit 11A, Pennsylvania Avenue South/East (Route 4). Follow for seven miles to Upper Marlboro exit. Turn right at the stop sign.

 

From Baltimore Beltway (I-695) take Route 97 to Route 3. Route 3 turns into Route 301. Continue to exit at Route 4 North/West (toward Washington). Take first exit (Upper Marlboro) to stop sign and take a left to the arena.

Understanding that horse sports may be hazardous and dangerous, even leading to permanent injury or death, each owner, rider, spectator, and other participant assumes any and all risk of loss or injury and agrees to hold harmless, regardless of negligent acts or omissions, the Potomac Valley Dressage Association, Inc., organizer, show committee, and all horse show personnel.
